The sky was the limit for ‘the little group’ Early Years Centre in Epsom on Tuesday 23rd March, as 20 of its children released balloons into the air to show their support for World Autism Awareness Day which takes place on 2nd April. The children took a break from their usual morning routine to release the balloons from their garden and watched in delight as the balloons produced a vibrant display of pink and purple, the colours of the National Autistic Society.
Autism is a lifelong developmental disability which affects more than half a million people in the UK. People with autism have difficulties with everyday social interaction and it affects the way they communicate and relate to people around them. Boys are 4 times more likely to develop it than girls.
The day’s event was particularly poignant in that it also symbolised the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the Centre. In July ‘the little group’ will be moving to larger premises on the site of At Andrew’s School in Cobham which will enable them to accommodate more children and families who will benefit from this unique learning environment.
