Who can Refer My Child?
At 'the little group' we have an open referral system which means that anyone can refer a child to us.
In most cases, initial contact is made by a child's parents. Referrals may also be made by health professionals such as a GP, Health Visitor, Portage Worker and Speech & Language Therapists. Also by professionals working in education such as Educational Psychologists, Teachers or a child's Local Authority officer. We always ensure that parents are directly involved in discussions relating to placement and are always open in our decisions.
It is not necessary to have a formal letter of referral or a statement of special educational needs.
What Happens Next?
Following the initial referral an informal home visit is usually arranged in order that we can answer your questions about 'the little group' and to evaluate the needs of the child. We believe in a policy of openness and honesty and if we believe a placement would be unsuitable, we will inform the parents immediately.
If everyone is agreed that a placement is appropriate then parents will be invited to visit the nursery and a firm offer and start date will be offered. Waiting lists are kept to a minimum and we admit children throughout the year. Children may be invited to either the 'mother and child group' or into one of the nursery classes.
We firmly believe in working in partnership with parents and are always open in our decisions
